A CHRISTMAS CORNUCOPIA
I dig Annie Lennox.
Since discovering her in the Eurythmics way back in the 80's, I've enjoyed her dramatic, artistic and sometimes downright weird personal expressions in music. When I read that she was coming out with a Christmas CD, I was initially skeptical. With her contralto voice and passionate electronic poundings, it didn't seem like a good fit. I was wrong.
Not only does she liven up dusty old odes, but she brings her trademark experimentation to other not-so-well-known songs. Nearly every single track on the CD is actually about Jesus and the true meaning of Christmas! But does she share the faith?
Mmmmmm.... not so much. From the insert:
So let me get this straight:
CHRIST isn't a person or God himself, just a "word" that represents the "divinity of life"? Like "Buddha" or "Allah" ? Huh?!?
Then we get the standard artist/secular/liberal line that the words in the Bible (as well as those other texts... at least she spread the blame :-) incite hatred and intolerance. And finally we get the Lefty "let's all hold hands and look past each other's differences" utopian wish.
Sounds like she DOES subscribe to a specific religion! LIBERALIGION! The Religion of Leftist Humanism. (I also dig her use of "whilst." That just makes her sound even smarter.)
So... Why on earth would you make a Christmas CD and then feel the need to tell us that you don't believe in anything and that Christ to you means some sort of inclusive vague nothingness? I guess once you've opened the package, it's too late to return it if you disagree.
So on behalf of Annie Lennox, and all the Secularists, I wish you a

"While I don't personally subscribe to any specific religion,
I do believe that the heart of all religious faith has to be
rooted in love and compassion, otherwise it serves no purpose."
"For me, the word 'Christ' represents the sacred and mysterious divinity of life...
which could just as easily be 'Buddha' or 'Allah'."
"The words from the Bible, the Torah, the Koran are too often misused
to justify viewpoints that oppress, divide, or create discord,
rather than engendering empathy, harmony, and respect for each other,
accepting and embracing our differences,
whilst realizing that we are all human,
with the same strengths and weaknesses."

Nothing Special, Actually!
Oh well. The music is nice... ;-)
Here's my two cents:
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
